Samudrika Shastra can reveal your Past, Present, and Future Samudrika Shastra can reveal your Past, Present, and Future

Vedic Samudrika Shastra is a branch of Indian astrology, a Vedic knowledge of all the contours or lines on the face, palm, and body. As per this shastra, every mark on the body, the lines on the palm, forehead, and feet speaks about the past, existing and future life of an individual.

It is believed to be found by Lord Brahma, the creator of this Universe himself. Later Sage Samudra (Samudrena) preserved and compiled it during the 4th Century AD. Which eventually, came to be known as Samudrika Shastra.

The ancient Garuda Purana mentioned Samudrika Shastra in the text. Thus, it is one of the earliest pieces of knowledge in Hindu text, focussed to understand the connection between the patterns of lines on hand and face with the experiences in life.

It is referred to as Anga Lakshana Shastra as well. While some people also regard it as an Occult science.

Its branches are  Hast Samudrika (Palmistry), Kapal Samudrika (Phrenology), and Mukh Samudrika (Face reading).

The 7 basic details of physical features reviewed in Samudrika Shastra

  1. Long arms, long eyes, long waist, long nostrils and a long front part.
  2. Short neck, short ears, short back and short thighs.
  3. Well-developed nose, eyes, forehead, teeth, head and chest
  4. Soft and subtle fingertips, hair, nails and skin.
  5. Red or rosy palms, soles, nails, palate, tongue, lips and the edge of the eyes.
  6. Deep voice, intelligence and navel.
  7. Well-spread forehead, chest and shoulders.

In modern-day language, every natural or acquired body mark is the coding of an individual's past Karma, current outlook and future destiny. It tells about the mental, physical and emotional capacity of the person. The inherent nature and things responsible for his future. Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains all believed in this ancient Samudrika Shastra.

These 7 basic details of Samudrika Shastra drew my attention to the legends passed on about the physical description of Lord Sri Rama by Sri Valmiki in Ramayana.

He has described Rama as a charming, well-built person of a dark complexion (Varṇam śyāmam) and long arms (ājānabāhu, meaning a person whose middle finger reaches beyond their knee).

In the Sundara Kanda, Hanumanji to prove to Lady Sita, that he is the messenger of Rama described Lord Rama as the one who has

  • A broad shoulder, mighty arms, a conch-shaped neck, a charming countenance, and coppery eyes.
  • He has a deep voice like the sound of a kettledrum and glossy skin.
  • Square-built, well-proportioned limbs and a dark-brown complexion.
  • He has four lines at the root of his thumb denoting his proficiency in the four Vedas. He has four lines on his forehead which indicate longevity.

We can easily correlate these citations with the Samudrik Shashtra theory that anyone with a neck like a conch shell has high possibility of becoming a king. And also that dark-glowing-skinned people are great achievers.

Samudrika Shastra believes that the Planet influences the features of the face

According to the Samudrika Shastra experts, a person's face can tell the dominant planets in an individual’s chart. And the other way around, the Rising sign or planet in the horoscope narrates the physical appearance of the native.

  1. The Sun: It gives a handsome round face, with an attractive chin, and a nose. Curly hair, thick arms, black eyes, and high cheekbones are some of the other facial features. Those influenced by Sun have a deep loud voice, are self-reliant, and have a sharp intellect. No wonder these people are good orators.
  2. The Moon: A charming radiant face and a peace-loving person. Their anger is usually under control. The moon effect gives them big eyes through which they love to dream. And because of their artistic bent, they fall for beautiful things in life. It builds an aura that attracts women toward them.
  3. Mars: Frames a small head with a long face. Get dry skin, lush curly hair, and black & shaggy arms. The Mars effect makes them tall, aggressive, and egoistic. And because of their non-compromising temperament, they indulge in fighting and power displays to solve any issues.
  4. Mercury: Those under the influence of mercury have a broad body, fair complexion, wide face, and shining hair. Their fickle minds sometimes pull them behind in achieving goals in life. They are nature lovers, and a whiff of nice fragrance uplifts their mood easily.
  5. Jupiter: It makes the person healthy, heavy, and round-faced. They also get fair complexion, curly black hair, and dimpled chin. They have a well-defined and well-proportioned nose considered to be the mark of intelligence. The influence of Jupiter gives them characteristics like excellent leadership qualities, self-reliance, intelligence, and generosity. They tend to lose hair at an early stage because of their intellect.
  6. Venus: Its influence gives attractive attributes to an individual's face, such as appealing eyes, long noses, and other distinct features. Their well-built body, chiselled jawline, and good looks get them a lot of women’s attention. They also possess an excellent voice and grace of the Lord of love (Cupid).
  7. Saturn: It gives small stingy eyes, pointed nails, high cheekbones, and an oval-shaped face. The body features highlight their suspicious and materialistic nature.

In Samudrika shastra 'Hast Samudrikam' the study of palm lines, is the most important thesis of this shastra.

Some of the famous ancient Hindu books on palmistry are Hasta Samudrika, Shastra Ravana Samhita, Hasth Sanjeevani

The Hasta Samudrika Shastra

It is one of the most significant, observations of the life path, traced on the body, however these days you don’t come across many knowledgeable palmists. It is mainly limited to family members or a few trusted acquaintances.

Are you aware of its accuracy and dependability?

Those who have not experienced personally will need some basic understanding of the science behind Hasta Samudrika Shastra.

This ancient method of palm reading accurately tells, about the present, past and future of natives. And also, about the date and time of birth. Interestingly it can even predict about native’s family i.e. parents, siblings and spouse.

The following factors are studied carefully in Hasta Samudrika Shastra or palm reading

  • Lines on the palms and their Position at the finger-joints
  • Length of fingers
  • Signs on the fingertips in the shape of: Åšaá¹…kha – conch, Cakra – Discus, Triangle Fish, Bow, Lotus, Star, Etc.
  • Analyse the various mounts or bulging parts at the roots of the fingers. These mounts are associated with the planet in the universe. They display the different mental, physical and emotional conditions of the native.

lines of hand

Interpreting some of the lines on the palm

  • Lifeline: It expands from the side of the palm above the thumb and makes an arc towards the wrist. It reflects major events in life like physical injuries, fatality and sudden alterations.
  • Fate line: Fate Line starts from the wrist, and goes up through the centre of the palm towards the middle finger. Fate Line is connected to the person’s life path, education, career choices, successes, and obstacles. It is responsible for ups and downs in career, and business.
  • Sunline: The 'mount of the Sun is at the base of the ring finger. Being a formidable planet, the line of the Sun indicates success, power, fame, brilliance, fate etc. It gives success, leadership, and fortune along with other strong lines in the hand. Many lines on the mount of the Sun indicate artistic and scientific hands. The person with a prominent Sun in their palm is generally temperamental, generous, and lives a luxurious life. A good Sun and Fate line helps to build a successful career and business. And if the fate line is not good, then the high energy generated by the Sunline helps strengthen the possibility of success in work.
  • Heart Line: Run towards the top of the palm, under the fingers. Heart Line indicates emotional stability, romance in life, depression, cardiac health, and tolerance.
  • Head Line: Head Line starts from the edge of the palm, and goes towards the other side of the palm. It represents the person’s mind and learning & communication method, intellectualism, and thirst for knowledge.
  • Simian Line: It is the merging line of the heart and headline. Suggests that the person tends to push things without giving much thought to them.
  • Mars line: It starts from the mount of lower Mars or runs parallel to the lifeline, down towards the ‘mount of Venus. It supports the weak lifeline and imparts a better healthy life. It is considered one of the most significant lines in palmistry. Its efficacy depends upon its position, size, extent, and breadth on the palm.
  • Marriage Line: This line goes across the edge of the palm starting under the little finger. Depending upon its thickness or clarity the chances of marriages or affairs materialises.

Samudrika Shastra, based on physical attributes, tells about the Qualities, Suffering, and Future destiny of a person. Its predictions about health, financial status, longevity, career, married life, siblings and family life helps in taking, timely preventive action and dismissing any harmful thoughts.
