Firstly, an individual should wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Then, a person should offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi by chanting Goddess Lakshmi's mantras and should begin the fast. While worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, idol of Goddess Lakshmi should be placed on a platform. The idol should be cleaned with Panchamrit. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped with many different prayers.

Sandalwood, banana leaves, garland of flowers, rice, durva, red thread, supari, coconut and other things should be used to worship Goddess Lakshmi. Food is offered to Brahmanas after worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. Some money as Dakshina is also given to them. A person following fast on this day is blessed with wealth and prosperity. A person should not consume food during this fast except fruits, milk and sweets.

Goddess Lakshmi is a representation of wealth and success. She is one of the three most powerful Goddesses. Goddess Lakshmi is also linked with feelings related to attraction and greed.
