Pradosh Vrat is one of the most fortunate day in the Hindu calendar for the worship of the Hindu godhead Lord Shiva. Shiva said to be the destroyer of worlds, is the most powerful god of the Hindu religion. This vrat is a ritual carried on and observed to get the blessings of Lord Shiva for a good year. Pradosh Vrat is done on both "Trayodashi Tithis' (thirteenth days) of a lunar month. It is known by many names depending on the day of the week it falls on, such as Soma Pradosh, Bhauma Pradosh and Shani Pradosh. According to it, on Pradosh Vrat anyone who fasts for the whole day in dedication to Lord Shiva would be purified of his/her sins and mistakes.
