According to some astrologers the best remedy is to offer food and water to Brahmins during the period of 15 days of Shradh. During this time, the souls of the ancestors are free to visit the Shradh occasions being performed by their successors. Besides, Brahmins should also be fed on the particular death anniversary of the departed soul. On these days, family members should try to prepare a special meal that was highly dear to the departed soul. Food should be offered to the departed souls for 15 days of Shradh in the month of Pitra Paksha. Besides these, one can do these things too:

One may feed balls of rice to cows

Pray sincerely to Lord Vishnu 

Complete the incomplete tasks of the ancestors

Donate things for preparations of a one-time meal and some cash to a Brahmin on every Amavasya. 

Donate clothes for ancestors during important functions in the family.

Start any family function with the blessings of ancestors and parents.

Take names and pray to them for safety and good luck before any ritual.

Feed crows and ants during the Amavasya day.

One can donate snacks and a packet of milk to the needy.

Light a lamp in front of their photos on the very Amavasya.

One should place photos of ancestors in the southern direction and always go on praying to them in that direction.

Pour water under a Banyan tree every day. If  not possible, one may do this ritual every Sunday as per convenience.

One can light a lamp under a banyan tree on every Saturday.

Pitra Dosha Puja

This Pitri Dosha Puja can be performed on Amavasya or during the Pitra Paksha. Gaya is regarded to be the most auspicious destination for this Puja. If one does not have enough cash to support a gala Puja, one can even do the same puja with a fruit and some flowers. If there is no fruit and flower, one can offer only water. It will please he departed souls.
