The main shrine of the Isht Dev of the Sindhis called Jhulelal was built in Sindh Pakistan. This is the place, where Jhulelal, the guardian Saint of the Sindhis, was swallowed by the earth after he had ended the tyranny of the Dictator called Mirkhshah. Sindhis built a temple at that place, but they had to leave this place when the partition took place after Independence of India. Sindhis still visit this shrine to get the blessings of Jhulelal. In this blog we will know about the Jhulelal Shrine in Sindh Pakistan.
History of Odero Lal Shrine
Jhulelal or Odero Lal is the Saint worshipped by the Sindhis. He is shown as an old man with a white beard flowing freely, sitting on a lotus flower on the back of the fish called Palla, mostly found in the river Sindh.
The Sindh State was home to many Hindu Sindhis. The Sindhis used to worship the Sindh River flowing along. The tyrant dictator of Sindh, Mirkhshah wanted to convert all Hindu Sindhis to Islam. The Sindhis prayed to Sindh River to save them from the dictatorship of Mirkhshah. Varun Dev or the Lord of the Water incarnated as Jhulelal and appeared with a huge army from the river Sindh, and saved Sindhis from the tortures of Mirkhshah, who eventually bowed in front of Jhulelal. Jhulelal got disappeared in the earth after teaching a lesson to Mirkhshah. A temple was built at that place.
The Architecture of the Shrine
This Temple is like a White coloured fortress. This is called the Shrine of Odero Lal or Udero Lal. It is located in Tando Adam in the city of Pakistan. People can come in the shrine from three sides as there are three entrances to the Shrine. On the right side of the grave, there is a mosque and namaz is offered there daily. On the left side is a temple where Arti is done every day.
The Architecture of the temple is Indo-Islamic. Glass has been used to decorate the interior of the Shrine. Wind chimers have been used to keep the shrine cool. There is a Miswak tree outside Shrine. Outside the Shrine there is an old Shiva temple along with an old well. The water of the well is believed to purify the soul. Hindus from different countries come and have a bath with the water from the well.
Rituals Performed at the Shrine
People come and tie strings around the Miswak tree and they come back to untie this string when their wish has been fulfilled. People light lamps in the shrine and sing Bhajan in the praise of Jhulelal. They also do Dandiya dance when their wishes are fulfilled. They also worship the Sindh River and light four lamps made of dough to pay their respect to Sindh River. A fair is organised every year at the shrine of Odero Lal where people around the world come and participate, people visit the temple as well as the mosque and donate to both of them during the fair.
