Vasudeva Dwadashi

Vasudeva Dwadashi is a day which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is observed on the day after Devshayani Ekadashi; during the Ashada Mash. It marks the beginning of Chatur Mash (the four holy monsoon months).

Krishna form of Lord Vishnu and Maa Lakshmi are worshipped on this day. Devotees who undergo strict satvik way of life for the four months of Ashada, Shravan, Bhadrapada and Ashvin can attain remarkable advantages and salvation of the soul.

On this day, rice, fruits and clothes are donated to Brahmin priests. Donating on this day is considered auspicious.

Rituals of Vasudeva Dwadashi

  • Devotees take holy bath in the morning to clean the body and soul.
  • They observe fasts throughout the day to attain blessings and prosperity.
  • Offering flowers, incense, water, lamps and a hand fan to the idol is considered auspicious.
  • Performing panchamrit worship of Lord Vishnu is very favourable.
  • People visit Vishnu temple and listen and sing bhajans and bhakti songs all night
  • Chanting of Vishnu Sahasranama and other mantras of Lord Vishnu is propitious.
  • Donating clothes and food to Brahmins as an act of charity.
