The Vrat katha of the Purnima is thus. Long ago there lived a demon named Tarakasur. He gained immense power and made chaos in the universe. The gods filed to curb him and sought help from Lord Shiva who made hem known that it was His son who could demolish the demon. But as He was in deep meditation He had no intention to have a son.  The gods with a heavy heart came back to Lord Vishnu and conveyed he message. Lord Vishnu took the guise of a beautiful lady named as Mohini and went to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was mesmerized with the beauty of the lady and willed to marry her. As a result of the marriage a son was born. He was able to kill he demon. To celebrate this great victory people on earth began to observe a Vrat. On the particular day of Kartik Purnima devotees generally get up early in the morning, go for a holy dip and start praying to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. They go for fast all day long and abstain from taking vegetables and lentils. In the evening they break their fasting and take slight refreshment. If people observe the Vrat , they can win salvation and make themselves free from the cycle of death and birth. Vaikunth Chaturdashi is celebrated on the 14th day of dark phase of Kartik month. Both are celebrated on the same month. Vaikunth Chaturdashi is known as Narak Chaturdashi too as on his particular day Lord Shri Krishna defeated Narakasur and on this vey day Lord Vishnu opened the door of his abode the Vaikunth for his devotees. 

On the very Vaikunth Chaturdashi people get bath early in the morning and light 14 diyas made of flour. They keep them outside thir homes and pray to Lord Vishnu. Kartik Purnima is told as Dev Deepavali as this is an auspicious day to have blessings from Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Both the two days are interconnected as the festivity is for Lord Vishnu and for His abode Vaikuntha.

The Things to do on Kartik Purnima 2023

As the festivity is an important one it is celebrated by folks ranging from all strata of life. But if you want to observe the day along with your dear and near ones, you have to do some auspicious things to keep the sanctity of the day.

Do’s

Get up from bed early in the morning, take a bath and don new or clean clothes.

Pray at home or in the temple and go on for worshipping.

A diya or lamp or a fragrant incense stick make the surrounding holy. Hence go for them.

Donate food, clothes or money among the destitute.

Pray to Lord Vishnu and recite appropriate mantras.

To win the blessings of Lord Vishnu and to sanctify your soul go on for fasting.

To cleanse your body and soul go for a holy dip into a holy water place.

Don’ts

Never take non-veg items or alcohol

Don’t take onions or garlic as these are regarded impure.

Try to keep aside the food items cooked by someone else. Rather go for your own made food.

Never be associated with any evil deeds such as playing cards, gambling, telling lies or deceitful activities. Never commit any sin on this very day.

Avoid all kinds of harsh words and show compassion and pity instead.

Never waste your food or materials.

Never go for anything violent. Avoid all typs of violence. 

Stay tuned at the Lotus feet of Lord Vishnu and Lord Bholanath. Only keep in mind that whatever you do is done for the benefit of mankind.

Actually it is the Kartik Purnima 2023 that is an important festival to show respect to Lord Vishnu going for fast, prayer and worship. Similarly there is deep specialty of donation on every Purnima day. If you can donate anything on this day, you are sure to win the grace of Lord Vishnu and mother Lakshmi. Donate Milk

According to astrology on this very Purnima day you can worship Ma Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu. If one can donate such thing that is very dear to Ma Lakshmi then he man can gain auspicious grace from the Mother. White materials are very dear to Mother. Hence if anyone can donate milk he is sure to prosper in life. He will never face any want of money. Poverty will never touch him. But the moment you think of donating milk on the very Kartik Purnima day never donate it in the evening. There is a deep relation of milk with the Moon.

Donate Clothes

Your virtue will be two folded if you go for donating clothes on this day. Again your economy is sure to be strong. Hence it is advised, to go for donation as much as you can.
