Mokshda Ekaadashi Vrat

Mokshada Ekadashi Vrat is celebrated on the eleventh day of Margsheersha Ekadashi. Usually the Shukla Paksha Ekadashi is popularly known as the Mokshada Ekadashi.

Origin of Mokshada Ekaadashi Vrat

The story runs that once so happened that there was a King by the name of Vaikhanans. And he lived in the city of Gokul. He dreamt once that his father, who has expired, was suffering in hell. He was greatly disturbed by this dream and went to meet an astrologer and a Brahmin. Seeing the disturbance of the King, they advised him to meet a sage named Parvet Wrishi. The King went to the place where the Rishi was taking shelter. The King told the sage about his dream in detail and asked what could be its solution. The sage then gave him a simple remedy. If followed properly this remedy would help his father attain salvation. It was for this remedy that the sage told the King about the fast of Mokshada Ekadaashi. He told the King that if he observed this fast with utmost faith and deep devotion it would help his father gain salvation. King Vaikhanans observed this fast with sincere faith and was able to send his father to heaven. Thus, this fast holds a very significant place amongst the Hindus.

It is also said that on this day of Mokshada Ekadaashi Vrat Lord Sri Krishna preached Geeta for Arjun, who was not willing to start the battle of Mahabharata against his family members.
